COMMISSIONS
Most people have never commissioned furniture and have no idea what happens or what a deposit buys. Here is the whole of it.
1. A conversation
Tell me the room, roughly what you want and roughly what you want to spend. A photograph of the space is worth more than a paragraph.
2. A sketch and a quote
A drawing, a timber, and a fixed price. Nothing is ordered and nothing is cut until you have seen both and said yes.
3. A deposit
Half up front. That buys the timber, which is the part that cannot be undone, and it puts you in the queue.
4. The build
Twelve to sixteen weeks for most pieces. You will get photographs as it goes, without having to ask for them.
5. Delivery
Freight for anything large, with a delivery appointment arranged by phone. Local delivery is free within an hour of Salt Lake City.
